Objective: Create an app for a restaurant’s delivery service
The product:
X Restaurant is a organic, healthy chain restaurant found across the United States. X Restaurant utilizes local ingredients in each market to create healthy meal options for its customers. X Restaurant targets working professionals who may not have time to cook their own meals.
The problem:
Busy working professionals lack the time, energy, and/or motivation to make their own meals or pick up delivery.
The goal:
Design an app for X Restaurant that allows users to easily place orders from X restaurant for delivery.
My role:
Lead UX designer & researcher
User Research Summary:
I created empathy maps, created user personas, and conducted a usability study to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was working professionals who don’t have the time, energy, or motivation to cook meals or pick up delivery.
This user group confirmed initial assumptions about X Restaurant customers, but research revealed that there were other factors affecting customers’ ability to prepare meals. Other user problems included accessibility limitations preventing customers from cooking or ordering and the need to prepare meals for people located in secondary areas.
Wireframes & Low-Fidelity Prototype:
After conducting user research, I began making wireframes to identify and incorporate key elements needed for the app to meet its goal.
Once the wireframes were complete, I created a low-fidelity prototype to connect the primary user flow of ordering a meal so this flow could be used in a usability study.
Usability Study Findings:
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. Findings from the second study helped finalize the high-fidelity prototype.
High-Fidelity Prototype:
The final high-fidelity prototype has cleaner user flows for placing orders, viewing the menu, and checking location options.
