About Us

Adnama Not Found is a photograph restoration service and store founded by Amanda Halprin. Amanda began working on restorations in 2022, when she discovered a love of repairing worn and torn photographs. She started digging into digital archives in search of photographs in need of repair and soon found herself lost in a sea of vintage prints. While working in the archives, Amanda learned how to colorize photographs, how to recreate missing pieces, and more tricks of the restoration trade. Once she started receiving regular restoration requests from friends and family, she decided to expand the business and began accepting commissions for her restoration work. She loves restoring photographs so much, she even works on restorations in her free time! Her archival and personal work are sold as prints and can be purchased at [link], while clients interested in commissioning her services can contact her at [email] to get a quote.

Let’s talk about warm vintages. No not wine (is that a wine term?)—sepia tone photos! You’ll notice a lot of older photos appear to have a reddish/orange tint to them that looks unnatural. On today’s vlog, I’ll show you how to offset that filter to make your older pictures look brand new!

Alice Roosevelt restorations are pretty popular in our store—it’s hard to keep her prints consistently stocked! It makes sense why so many people are fascinated by her. In addition to being just inherently glamorous, she was a trailblazer in her day known for her “wild” ways. Just ask about her pet snake, Emily.

Below is a photograph of my great grandmother. I have no idea how it got ripped, but I was sad to see such a lovely photo with such a big scar.

Luckily, repairing tears like this is much easier than you’d expect! On today’s vlog, I show you how to fix these types of rips and talk one-on-one with a photo preservation specialist to find out the best way to store old photos (and prevent issues like this!).

Let’s talk about reconstruction! Although some wearing and tearing can easily be fixed with a quick spot heal, that’s not always enough.

For example, this photograph required some extensive facial reconstruction. To be honest, I was intimidated by it at first! That line over her face (is it a marker? is it a scratch? I don’t know!) couldn’t just be erased because there’s nothing under it to uncover.

I rebuilt her face using the half of her face that’s uncovered and (after a lot of trial and error) was able to pull it off! Once I’m done I’m thinking of adding a before and after print to the store. What do you think? Would you want this as a before and after print?

Analysis

For these social media posts, I worked to find a balance between the singular and plural voice. While only one worker (me) repairs photos, in this situation multiple people would run the store and social media accounts. I kept a familiar tone throughout both the singular and plural voices but made sure to slightly differentiate the voices so readers feel a difference when I write a post vs. when others write a post.

Another key element of these social media posts was making sure they were situated to boost SEO. I have been able to conduct analyses of hashtags on this topic in relation to SEO and chose the hashtags used to best optimize the posts. For example #photorestoration is used within the photo restoration community in order to connect creators and interested viewers with each other, and remains effective because it is popular but oversaturated.

Video Script

Use: for vlog or long TikTok

[unrestored photograph appears on the screen]

V.O.: This is going to sound strange, but I find color correcting photographs really soothing, so I thought I’d just walk you through the process on this picture. After cleaning it up a bit, the first thing I do is go in and add a photo filter to balance the red.

[photoshop window is open on screen with filter layer turned on]

V.O.: To do this, I use a blue. I’m using cooling filter 82 here because it best offsets the red. The other two featured cooling features have a little too much red in them to fully offset the reddish tint in the original image.

[focus in on the filter option box]

V.O.: Once the filter is on, I adjust it as necessary. This is good, but the photograph still needs a little color adjustment. So here I want to make her face sharper but balance out some of the undertones.

[go wide to photoshop window with the exposure layer turned on]

V.O.: First, I add an exposure layer, which sharpened the facial features but made her look orange. Next, I add a second layer of the cooling filter to counteract the exposure layer color while maintaining the added sharpness.

[turn on second cooling filter]

V.O.: This cooling layer is clipped specifically to her face, so only the face changes tone (as opposed to the whole image). Then I refined the full image exposure elements, which again heightened the red undertone. To counteract this, I pulled out some of the red using a levels layer.

[turn on levels layer]

V.O.: And this is the final product!

[show before image, hold 3 seconds, then show after image for 3 seconds]

Analysis

In my research on photo restoration and audience engagement, I have found that many people are interested in learning more about the photo restoration process. This video breaks down one element of the process (tone adjustment) and utilizes on-screen visuals so viewers can fully understand the process. The script goes through this process step-by-step in order to make the video accessible to a variety of viewers, whether they be photoshop novices or photo restorers themselves. The tone of the script strives to be clear and friendly, which best engages the audience.

By creating this material, store sales and restoration inquiries are likely to boost, as viewers feel connected to the process. While watching, viewers may want to buy a print of the photo being edited, or may think of similar photos they have that they may want restored. Using a mixture of audio and visual cues draws the reader in and creates a connection to the product, which has been known to boost profit for businesses.

Purpose: Rejection of a customer inquiry due to condition of photograph

Hi [Name],

Thank you for reaching out to inquire about our photo restoration services. Unfortunately, due to the condition of the photograph, we are unable to take on this project. While it is our goal to help restore as many photographs as possible, some photos are too far gone to bring back into pristine condition.

I am sorry we could not be of more help. If you have any other photographs you would like restored, please feel free to send them as a reply to this email, and I would be happy to evaluate them for restoration (and send over a quote, if applicable).

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Amanda Halprin

Owner, Adnama Not Found

Both of these emails embody the familiar and knowledgable tone of the company voice, but the content of the messages differ greatly. The first email is designed to automatically send after a purchase is made. The goal of this email is to provide customers with shipping expectations, get them excited about their order, and give them ways to further engage with Adnama Not Found.

The second email has a more serious tone, as it is a form rejection letter. This is intended to be calm and apologetic, ideally encouraging the customer to easily process the rejection. If the customer would like to discuss the matter further, that option is presented in the email, cutting down on the frustration they may feel. Although most reactions to rejections are negative, this email strives to neutralize any possible negative fall out.
